Community Code of Conduct

04.16.2008
( 3 )

1) Honor diversity.

We welcome anyone with Green values to participate in Green Change, regardless of their political affiliation. Green values are grassroots democracy, justice, sustainability and non-violence.

2) Be respectful *

We respect cultural, ethnic, racial, sexual, religious and spiritual diversity. We treat one another with courtesy and kindness.

3) Be collaborative.

Green Change is about collaboration and working together. Add something to the conversation. When you are unsure, ask for help. Help others. Share what you know.

4) Be tolerant.

Be a peacemaker. Disagreeing with another member is important, because it is a way to teach and learn. However, it is no excuse for rudeness and disrespectful conduct. We all experience frustration now and then, but we cannot allow it to turn into a personal attack. If we are to bring peace to the world, we must bring peace to our community.

5) ABCs of No-nos

The following types of conduct and content are prohibited:

Advertising, abuse
Business solicitations
Commercialism
Demeaning conduct and content
Ethnic slurs
Excessive cross posting, encouraging others to commit illegal acts
False accusations
Green bashing
Hate speech, homophobic conduct content
Insults, illegal activities, inflammatory conduct or content
Jerkiness
KKK members
Little tiny text (It’s just too hard to read.)
Multiple user names, malicious conduct or content
Name-calling
Obscenity, offensive conduct or content
Personal attacks, pornography, posting private information of others without express permission
Quests to offend others
Racist conduct or content
Sexist conduct or content, spam
Threats
Ugliness towards others
Violence
White supremacy
X-rated material
Yellow journalism
Zebra haters

6) Reporting a post

If you feel a member has blatantly disregarded our Code of Conduct, please contact Marnie Glickman at marnie@greenchange.org. However, report posts with discretion. Reporting a post or a member simply because you disagree with their viewpoint is unacceptable.

7) Final words*

Violating our Community Code of Conduct or User Agreement may result in a warning, temporary ban, or a permanent ban from participating in our community without notice.

We reserve the right to remove content without notice to the author or those who have replied without notice if it violates our code of conduct or user agreement.

Except for spammers, I am wary about a permanent ban without notice. The Green-Rainbow Party had an account on Facebook a while back and Facebook yanked our account without notice and would not let us get our contacts.

They cited that we broke their rules, but the only thing I could find was that we were a group that was using a person account. Other groups were acting that way and continue to do so (after all does Facebook really think that candidates are reading their Facebook accounts).

Still, as volunteers, I know you don’t want to get overloaded.

Just something to keep in mind.

I think you’ll find no troubles here as Facebook is not nearly as cool or progressive as Green Change. We of course must reserve the right to permanently ban those how violate the Community Code of Conduct, but we hope to never have to do so.
